Ecofeminism Blog

Project two required us to create in a new genre about a community that we are not a part of. The genre that I chose to complete was a blog and the community that I chose was ecofeminists. Ecofeminism is a movement that combines both ecological and feminist concerns in regards to a male dominated society.
Project 2 Reflection
The initial presentation of project two was quite daunting in the sense that I am not extremely computer savvy nor well versed in communities outside of my own. Therefore, it is safe to say that when we were assigned project two I was dumbfounded for quite some time before finding my niche in the community of ecofeminists. I originally was going to choose the vegan community, however, there was a setback when other students also wanted to pick the same community, thus resulting in the discovery of my chosen topic. This was very unlike the first project in the sense that we had to work in the completely new and unfamiliar medium of blogs. Additionally, unlike the first project where we chose a community that we are passionate about, this project required much more research and knowledge as not only are we discovering something new, but we are writing much more than what was previously required. All of the documents linked above represent the completion of this project in its entirety as they illustrate my progression from the creation of a topic, its development and evolution, and eventually the final blog.
Upon starting this paper, I spent hours in the library trying to find academic sources that not only corresponded with the ecofeminist movement, but rather supplied information that is both valuable and unbiased. Additionally, before this project I had never before created an annotated bibliography. This supplementary assignment was extremely difficult to grasp at first, however, once completed it was extremely handy in remembering what your sources were about and how to apply them to different aspects of the blog. Another requirement of the assignment that was unfamiliar to me was the entire interview process. The woman that I interviewed is from my hometown and actually taught me so much information and first hand experience about the ecofeminist movement that I did not come across online. This part of the assignment was the most intimidating part to me as I wanted to do justice to the ecofeminist community and not come across as uneducated in the subject. However, this part of the assignment was also the most rewarding as I gained so much outside knowledge and the implementation of this interview within my blog was extremely eye opening and necessary to get my desired points across.
From project two I learned so much about not only the entire research process but also about how to create and circulate information within different genres. This project proved to be the first time I had ever created a blog, thus originally being a learning curve. However, once I learned how to use the Wix website, this project was extremely fun and rewarding to create and circulate. Having to find a certain number of academic sources was not a hard task, but rather one that taught me lots about the value of information and how to find reputable sources that fit certain expectations. Overall, this project was extremely gratifying as I learned so much throughout the entire project and had the ability to spread the ecofeminist message to so many individuals.
