Genres in the Love Your Neighbor Foundation

Project one was an assignment in which I had to write an analytical essay about a community in which I am involved. The community that I chose to write about was the Love Your Neighbor Foundation (LYN Fund) which is a volunteer organization that I have been involved in since its establishment in 2015. This foundation raises money through community events and fundraisers to help local women battling with breast and ovarian cancer pay for their bills when they are financially struggling.

Project One Reflection

Upon writing project one I did not have any major worries as I had previously created essays structured like this one while in high school. However, the process of writing this paper was different than what I was used to because my old teachers would not read over our plans or rough drafts to check on our progress. Therefore, I really enjoyed the collaboration and structure of this class in regards to creating projects, as it aided greatly in solidifying a lot of my ideas. Additionally, this course gave me more creative freedom as it allowed me to explore new genres and pick a topic I am passionate about, whereas many courses I have taken before had told you explicitly what to write about. In regards to revision, I kept much of the shitty first draft and only added minimal content before turning in my final copy. One characteristic of my writing is that I am extremely thorough and will write until absolutely every idea of mine is covered, therefore, most of my SFD was what I expected my final copy to look like. I included the three drafts above in order to visually demonstrate my progress within this first project, as these three assignments display my development in ideas when it came to organization and content.

This was my absolute favorite project of the semester because it allowed me to write about a community that I am extremely passionate about and I love sharing the story surrounding the foundation. This particular project prepared me for Project 2 because it allowed me to re-adapt to the writing style I developed in high school as well as taught me how a college essay should be structured and the expectations placed before me. My final draft of this first project not only showcased who I am as a person but it displayed my enhanced qualities as a writer. Additionally, this project exemplified multiple characteristics of my personality that can be interpreted through my involvement within this community. This project showed that I am capable of creating a successful composition that showcases my strengths regarding diction, organization, and overall capabilities of writing a excellent essay.
