Reflection & Growth
Upon entering ENC 2135 and looking at the syllabus, one of the most daunting things that I saw was the weekly blog post. I know that might sound frivolous since a college student should not be intimidated by blogs, however, I didn't know if my responses would be relevant or significant enough compared to my classmates. These blog assignments required the class to evaluate different episodes of the show "Community" and write about them according to a supplied prompt. My first ever blog post was a rhetorical analysis and I remember spending an upwards of 40 minutes on it to make sure that it was perfect. From that point on, my blog posts only got easier to write and more relevant to the topics we were discussing in both class and the readings. From comparing my first ever rhetorical analysis to my last, I can see the blatant growth between not only content but my diction as I progressively understood genre and rhetoric more and more as the semester progressed. I am extremely proud of myself as I have come a long way from the beginning of the semester. I originally was a timid incoming freshman and became someone who is confident and proud of their work.
The multitude of in class assignments that we did through the entire semester proved to be a source of learning and collaboration. All of our in class assignments require the class to work collaboratively in a manner to perpetuate the themes we are learning about in person and prepare us for future assignments. Some of these assignments included making memes and working together with other classmates to create in different genres before the third project. All of these in class assignments taught us how to create in different genres and successfully spread the message that we intended to do. The assignment of making memes was one that I didn't entirely understand at first, however, after completing the task I understood that any genre is useful as they project any message you put in them. Additionally, the last class assignment that we completed was working in three different genres with partners. This assignment was not only entertaining but super helpful as we took on the endeavor that was the third project. All of the in class assignments were extremely useful as they correlated with the projects we were working on at the time and further perpetuated our knowledge in specific subjects.
